"Some things don’t look important until you realize they didn’t exist before" - Abby Herrera
Abby is a leader who builds systems, empowers others, and creates communities where people, ideas, and projects can thrive. She strives to always make the best better, and brings that mantra to her role in running her family’s English Bulldog breeding program– HFarm Bulldogs. She started working alongside her parents when she was in fifth grade, and has since built symptoms to track health records, breeding schedules, and family updates. With puppies in more than 20 states and Canada, she keeps standards high for both the program, and herself. In fact, she can trace this entrepreneurial spirit back to her time as Deputy Mayor at JA BizTown.
Her experience running a business has not only instilled a strong work ethic, it has also ignited her passion for veterinary medicine and animal welfare. As a second-year Arizona 4-H State Ambassador focused on youth development, Abigail leads programs in healthy living, agriculture, STEM, and civic engagement. She mentors younger members, serves as a club, county, state, & national leader and helps students navigate competitions and projects.
During the 4-H club’s annual canned food drive, Abigail learned about food security in Arizona and immediately knew she had to act. She founded a nonprofit called “Bite for Better,” that provides interactive workshops on nutrition to local elementary schools. The organization also collects canned food items to stock Ironwood High School’s food pantry. Teaching students about healthy living is about more than information. It is about showing them that small choices can make a big difference. Helping students understand the connection between their bodies, their energy, and their choices allows them to engage more fully in school, leadership, and life.
Abby also served nearly 7,000 students as an Executive Association officer, being Arizona DECA’s 2025-2026 State Vice President of Marketing. The organization prepares emerging leaders for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, finance and management. With DECA she initially guided marketing efforts, but realized quickly the need for consistent branding and the ability to share work effectively. Abby took initiative and used her certifications in social media to create a Marketing and Branding Guide that not only helps people and organizations better understand how to market themselves and present their work, but also serves as a tool to help others shine. This exemplifies Abigail’s belief that leadership goes beyond personal accolades. Rather, it is about creating systems, opportunities, and pathways for everyone.
As a first-generation college student, Abby plans to attend the University of Arizona W.A. Franke Honors College in the fall and double major in Veterinary Science through the College of Agriculture Life & Environmental Sciences and in Business Marketing.
